JMN Logistics Wraps Up Driver Appreciation Week

Monday, November 16th, 2009

The week of Nov 9th was a very special week for JMN Logistics. This was our third annual driver appreciation week, in which we wanted to show our gratitude for everything our dedicated driver base does day in and day out. For many of our drivers the time on the road can be long days and weeks away from home helping deliver on our corporate commitments. We feel our drivers give us a competitive edge over our competition and are really the backbone of JMN. Without our drivers we aren’t any better than the 1000’s of non asset based brokers out there.

This year we wanted to do a few special things to show our appreciation. We held BBQ cookouts at all our terminals; we sent gift certificates to each family for a Honey Baked Ham or Turkey of their choice. We sent letters to each family expressing our gratitude and made up a special handbook to help our drivers with all their paperwork, logs and critical info.

Everyone at JMN appreciates our driver’s dedication and hard work and together we will continue to be a force within the industry.

Interview with the Owner Part 5 – Operating in a Recession

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Many dealers are struggling to keep their business thriving as new-car demand has declined. Many of these retailers are looking to used vehicles to bolster their bottom lines, so what, if any, deals are you offering to help dealers keep transportation costs down and keep profits up in these tough times?

As one example of how we’re helping dealers keep costs down, we ran a promotion with Dealerslink and Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group (DTAG) in July that offered numerous discounts. DTAG offered significant savings on its inventory purchased through Dealerslink’s Web site, and JMN provided an additional 10 percent to 20 percent discount on any DTAG vehicle shipped through the Dealerslink Shipping Portal. We will continue to work with our many partners on similar cost-saving offers in the future.

Our 11 strategically placed terminals allow customers to get a lot of backhaul rates in our footprint. Very simply put: if they order online, they save money. We’re also in the trial phase with a lot of new vendors and are developing connections that will provide even more efficiencies and savings in the future.

Having the Right Mix

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Within any industry one of the main goals of creating a successful business is to find areas of efficiency. In the transport world that is creating a flowing network where trucks can be loaded as much as possible. At first you’re battling a little chicken or the egg problem because without one lane it’s hard to grow another. Taking some educated risks on freight and using those lanes as spring boards to create a smooth flowing network is the challenge. Our approach has been to supplement the new car side with the used side so when one is down, hopefully the other will be up and vice versa. This came to light the past 6 months especially. New cars were non-existent first half of 2009 from a transport perspective. But the remarketed side was strong. Now a shift in power with the void that was created with the slow down of new cars is coming forward. New has picked up considerably and the remarketing side is a bit off. All and all JMN’s goal is to be well diversified so we can survive through the ups and downs of both sides.

Interview with the Owner Part 4 – Changing with the Times

Monday, October 19th, 2009

As more and more dealers become tech savvy, have you found that demand for your services has grown over the years, with more dealers remotely bidding and gaining units and then turning to transportation companies to deliver them? Or do you find most of your clients still prefer to be on-site at auction and “kick the tires,” so to speak?

The transportation landscape has changed. Buyers aren’t going to brick and mortar auctions anymore; they’re ordering from their desk. We built our systems to facilitate this new method of buying and transporting vehicles. We provide the technology and assurances to provide peace of mind that dealers can get the right car to the right location. They can log into our system and download a copy of the proper paperwork.

There are a variety of transportation companies out there; what do you believe makes yours special? Why should dealers select you over a competitor?

There are three main things that set JMN Logistics apart from our competitors: our nationwide reach, our experience and our technology. Interview with the Owner Part 2 – Technology

Monday, October 5th, 2009

Technology has become a key facet of today’s auto industry. What services and platforms are you now offering clients to help make their lives easier in this difficult economy?

Long ago we recognized that new technology would be critical to our growth and the growth of the transport industry. One of our latest innovations is the Transport 2.0 platform found at www.jmnhaul.com. This new, robust platform was tailored with the end customer in mind and facilitates competitive online quotes, quoting for multiple units (up to 10), national shipping from any point to any point, and quick and efficient ordering through a simplified user interface. The Transport 2.0 platform turns the experience of getting vehicles shipped into a three-minute process that can be done entirely over the Internet.

We’re also expanding connections to our OEM partners in order to quickly and accurately share information. JMN takes advantage of the latest Web and communications technology to streamline processes and make doing business with us as seamless as possible.

Interview with the Owner Part 1 – History of JMN Logistics

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Please tell us about the history of JMN Logistics? When was it established/who established it? Has it changed hands over the years? How has it evolved over the years to meet the ever-changing industry?

JMN Logistics is proud to be celebrating our 10th anniversary in August 2009. It was established by Jon Michael Nuckolls, a third-generation car dealer from St. Louis. He had become a big player in auto auctions and had his own truck to haul vehicles. Other dealers began asking if he could haul their vehicles as well. JMN has grown from moving 30,000 units in 2000 to nearly 300,000 units in 2008. Additionally, our company went from seven employees and one truck in 1999 to 95 trucks and 165 associates in 2008.

In dealing with growth, one of our primary challenges is in constantly keeping the pulse of our thousands of customers, both large and small, and
meeting their expectations.
